Paid plans include SumUp Payments Plus at £19 a month, Dojo Plus at £11.99 for new customers against a £25 list price, Square Plus from £29 and Viva from £3.99 to £15.99.

Rented terminals cost £13.99 to £30 + VAT a month, and £20 is the most common published figure: Paymentsense, Clover Mini, Dojo Pocket and Worldpay's indicative quote. Some add minimum charges: Paymentsense £24.95 a month, Worldpay £15.00 indicative and Lloyds Cardnet £10.

Standalone terminals cost £135 (SumUp Terminal), £149 (Square Terminal, PayPal Terminal, Dojo Go Max) and £169 (Revolut Terminal, Square Handheld). 12 providers publish a hardware price, Worldpay gives an indicative one, and takepayments, Teya, Elavon, Viva and myPOS do not publish one.

Worked yearly costs at £2,000 and £10,000 a month.

Card fees only, per year, at published rates read 26 October 2026, assuming a £20 average sale and UK consumer cards. Terminal and plan costs are added only where stated.

At £10,000 a month, £120,000 a year, Dojo, myPOS and Tyl by NatWest move to quotes, so they are not listed.

  • £2,000 a month (1,200 payments a year): Revolut £216; Dojo £288; myPOS £348; Flatpay £357.60; Tyl by NatWest £393.60; Paymentsense £396; SumUp and Viva £405.60; Square and Zettle £420; Stripe £456; SumUp Payments Plus £465.60 including its plan; Lloyds Accept £600.

Worked yearly costs at £50,000 a month.

At £50,000 a month, £600,000 a year, most published prices no longer apply. Dojo, Flatpay, Paymentsense, myPOS and Tyl by NatWest all move to custom or tailored rates, SumUp offers bespoke fees from £10,000 a month, and Square says custom rates may be available above £200,000 a year. The published figures below are a ceiling, not the price a business of this size should pay.

The pattern holds at every size: the cheapest and dearest published options differ by a factor of about three, and the fixed fee per payment matters more than the headline percentage once a business takes many small payments.

  • Revolut: £5,400 a year.
  • SumUp Payments Plus: £6,168 including its plan.
  • SumUp pay-as-you-go and Viva: £10,140.
  • Square and Zettle: £10,500.
  • Stripe Terminal: £11,400.
  • Lloyds Accept: £15,000.
  • Quote only at this size: Dojo, Flatpay, Paymentsense, myPOS, Tyl by NatWest, Worldpay, takepayments, Teya, Clover, Barclaycard, Elavon and Lloyds Cardnet.

Contracts and payouts.

Six providers state no contract for at least one product: SumUp, Square, Zettle, Revolut, Barclaycard Smartpay Anywhere and Lloyds Accept. Stripe Terminal prices on a pay-as-you-go basis, Viva lets plans change monthly, Teya states no lock-ins, and Dojo offers 30-day rolling or 12-month fixed terms on custom rates. Fixed terms are 12 months at Tyl by NatWest and takepayments, 12 to 18 months at Barclaycard, and a minimum of 18 months at Worldpay. Flatpay, Paymentsense, Clover, myPOS, Elavon and Lloyds Cardnet do not publish contract terms. Two providers offer help leaving an old contract: Dojo up to £3,000 and Barclaycard up to £1,000 towards exit fees.

Next-day payout is standard. Faster options exist: Zettle typically within minutes to a PayPal balance, myPOS instantly to a myPOS account, Viva in real time, Square instantly for 1.95% and Stripe instantly for 1% with a 40p minimum. SumUp and Teya pay at weekends.

Get the best rate for your business.

This report shows published prices. Most businesses taking more than £10,000 a month can get better, but only by asking. We compare the whole UK market, including Dojo, SumUp, Teya, Flatpay, Paymentsense, Square, Worldpay and others, request quotes from the providers that do not publish, and negotiate the rate on your real takings and card mix. Every quote is set out on the same basis as this report, so you can compare them fairly.

We then handle the switch from your current provider and give you a named account manager who stays with you after setup and checks your statements against the agreed rate. When providers change their published prices, we review whether your rate is still competitive. You pay us nothing. We may receive a fee from the provider you choose.
