What Clover publishes, what you have to ask for, and how its rental prices compare with Dojo, Square, Lloyds Cardnet and Worldpay.
Published rates from every major UK card machine provider, plus the quoted rates that only come on request. You see them side by side, on your own takings.
The short answer
Clover, run in the UK by First Data Europe Limited, part of Fiserv, does not publish its card transaction rates: you get a quote. It does publish device rental, read 26 October 2026: Clover Flex Pocket and Clover Flex £15 + VAT a month, Clover Mini £20 + VAT and Clover Station Duo £30 + VAT, with next-business-day settlement and 7-day phone support included as standard.
Published prices read 26 October 2026 from each provider's own pricing page. Quote only means the provider gives rates on request; we obtain those for you.
| Provider | In-person card rate | Monthly fee | Card machine | Contract | Payouts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clover Source | Quote only | Rental only | Flex Pocket £15, Mini £20, Station Duo £30 a month + VAT | Not published | Next business day |
| Dojo Source | 1.2% blended under £100k a year; custom above | £0 Essential; Plus £11.99 new customers (£25 list) | Go Max £149 or £25 a month; Pocket £239 or £20; Wired £179 or £15 | 30-day rolling or 12-month fixed (custom rate) | Next day |

| Worldpay Source | Quote only | Terminal £20 a month (indicative) | Rental, quote | Minimum 18 months | Next day |
VAT is excluded where the provider states it. Rates are for in-person UK consumer cards unless stated. Our service is free to you. We may receive a fee from the provider you choose; it never changes the price you pay.
Tell us about your business. We compare the whole market, including the providers that only quote on request, and come back with the lowest total cost for your takings and the right machine. You keep a named account manager who looks after you after setup.

Clover's UK site lists four devices with monthly rental prices, read 26 October 2026: Clover Flex Pocket at £15 + VAT a month, Clover Flex at £15 + VAT a month, Clover Mini at £20 + VAT a month and Clover Station Duo at £30 + VAT a month. Rental means you pay each month to use the machine instead of buying it outright, so the cost never stops while you keep it.
What Clover does not publish is the transaction rate, the percentage taken from each card payment. The site asks you to get a quote. Contract length, setup fees, PCI fees (PCI DSS is the card industry's security standard, and some providers charge a monthly fee to manage it) and chargeback fees (a chargeback is when a customer disputes a payment through their bank) are also not published. Before you sign, ask for each of these in writing, along with separate rates for debit, credit, business and American Express cards. A quote that only shows one headline rate is not enough to compare.
Rental is the cost you can check. Over a year, Clover Flex costs £180 + VAT, Clover Mini £240 + VAT and Clover Station Duo £360 + VAT. Over three years that becomes £540, £720 and £1,080 before VAT. Compare that with buying a Square Terminal for £149 + VAT once.
The rate matters more. Take a café with £5,000 of card sales a month. On Dojo's published 1.2% blended rate (one rate for all cards, for businesses under £100,000 a year) it pays £60 a month in fees. On Square's 1.75% it pays £87.50. For Clover Flex to cost the same as Dojo with a Go Max on £25 a month (£85 in total), the Clover rate would need to be no higher than 1.4%: £70 in fees plus £15 rental. Ask Clover for its rate, then run this sum on your own takings. If the quoted rate is well under that, Clover can be good value; if it is higher, the rental makes it the dearer choice.
Clover sells its devices as part of a wider system. Its site says Clover POS systems help you track sales, manage inventory and organise staff schedules, but it does not publish a separate price for the software, so ask whether any software fee sits on top of the rental.
The simplest way to choose is by cost and by where you take payment. If you only need one machine to take payments, the two £15 devices, Clover Flex and Clover Flex Pocket, are the cheapest Clover options. Clover Mini at £20 and Station Duo at £30 cost more each month, so they only make sense if you will use the extra till features every day.
One useful check: Lloyds Cardnet also rents the Clover Flex, at £21 monthly rental + VAT with an optional £10 SIM. That is £6 a month more than Clover's own published £15 + VAT price for the same device, before any rate difference. If a bank offers you Clover, compare it with going to Clover directly.
Settlement, the moment your card takings reach your bank account, is next business day as standard, according to Clover's UK site. No payout fee is stated. That is in line with most of the market: Dojo, Worldpay and Barclaycard also pay next day.
Clover says 7-day phone support is included as standard. For a shop or restaurant that trades at weekends, that is a real strength, because a machine fault on a Saturday costs takings.
The regulated firm is First Data Europe Limited (FDEL), authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, FCA Register No. 582703. Clover's own wording is worth reading: Clover devices and solutions are provided by either Marketplace Merchant Solutions Limited or First Data Europe Limited and are not regulated by the FCA. In plain terms, the payment processing is regulated, but the hardware and software side is not. Check which company your contract is with before you sign.
Clover suits businesses that want a full till and payments system from one provider, with weekend phone support and a fixed monthly rental they can budget for. Restaurants, cafés and shops taking steady card volume are the natural fit, because a negotiated rate on higher takings can outweigh the rental.
It does not suit businesses that want to see the price before they talk to anyone, or very low-volume sellers. If you take under about £1,000 a month on card, £15 + VAT a month in rental is a large share of your costs. A bought reader with no monthly fee, such as SumUp's Solo at £79 ex VAT or Square's Reader at £19 + VAT, will usually cost less.
Dojo publishes a 1.2% blended rate under £100,000 a year, a free Essential plan and Go Max at £149 upfront or £25 a month. It is the clearest published benchmark for a quoted Clover rate. Square charges 1.75% for UK cards with no monthly fee and lets you buy hardware outright, from £19 + VAT for the Reader to £699 + VAT for Square Register.
Lloyds Cardnet rents the same Clover Flex at £21 + VAT a month, with a £10 minimum monthly charge and quoted rates; its example shows a 0.5% service charge for Visa debit. Worldpay is also quote only, with an indicative terminal rental of £20 a month and a minimum 18-month contract on online applications. Ask each for a written quote on the same numbers.
Choosing between Clover and the alternatives on this page takes time, and the published figures are only the starting point. We compare the whole UK market on your own numbers: your monthly card takings, your average sale and the cards your customers use. For Clover, that means getting its quote in writing and testing it against the published rates from Dojo, Square and others. Then we negotiate the rate with the provider that fits, so you are not left to haggle alone.
We also handle the switch for you, from the application to the day your new machine arrives, and you get a named account manager who stays with you after setup. If your rate creeps up or your business changes, you have one person to call. You pay us nothing: we may receive a fee from the provider you choose. Fill in the quote form and we will come back with a clear comparison.
Clover's published rental, read 26 October 2026, is £15 + VAT a month for Clover Flex Pocket and Clover Flex, £20 + VAT for Clover Mini and £30 + VAT for Clover Station Duo. Transaction fees are on top and are quote only.
Clover does not publish its card transaction rates in the UK. You have to request a quote. Ask for separate rates for debit, credit, business and American Express cards, plus any authorisation, PCI or minimum monthly charges, so you can compare it fairly.
On cost, Clover Flex is cheaper at £15 + VAT a month against £20 + VAT for Clover Mini. Clover does not publish a side-by-side feature list on its rental page, so ask for a demonstration and choose on whether you need the extra till features every day.
Clover's payment processing is provided by First Data Europe Limited, FCA Register No. 582703. Clover devices and solutions are provided by Marketplace Merchant Solutions Limited or First Data Europe Limited and, in Clover's own words, are not regulated by the FCA.
Clover says it offers next-business-day settlement as standard, meaning card takings reach your bank account the next working day. No payout fee is stated on its UK site. That matches Dojo, Worldpay and Barclaycard.
Yes, some banks offer Clover. Lloyds Cardnet rents the Clover Flex at £21 monthly rental + VAT, with an optional £10 SIM. Clover's own site lists the Clover Flex at £15 + VAT a month, so compare both before signing.
