6 criteria, scored only from what each provider publishes.
The investment types a firm can offer through the provider: shares, exchange-traded funds (ETFs, funds that trade like shares), mutual funds, bonds, options, crypto, and fractional shares (buying part of a share for a set amount of money).
Commission, platform or account fees on a pricing or fee page that a firm can use to estimate its cost. "From" prices do not count.
The regulators that authorise the provider's broker or custodian, with a licence or register number published, and how many jurisdictions are covered.
The published number of countries where partners operate or end customers can be served, or the number of markets and exchanges a firm can reach.
A documented API, a sandbox (a test environment with simulated money), a white-label app or ready-made portals the firm can brand as its own, and a stated time to launch.
A named investor compensation scheme with its published limit, such as SIPC in the US or FSCS in the UK, a stated custody arrangement (who holds customer assets, kept apart from the provider's own), and SOC 2 or ISO 27001 security credentials.
| Criterion | Fintech apps and neobanks | Banks and wealth managers | Brokers expanding abroad |
|---|---|---|---|
| Asset range | 20 | 20 | 15 |

Score out of 100 is the sum of each criterion score divided by five and multiplied by its weight. The overall ranking is the mean of the segment scores. Ties are broken by regulatory standing, then asset range. A provider that does not publish a price is scored as though the price were high, because a business cannot plan on an unpublished price. Prices are scored on the standard published rate, never an introductory, promotional or "from" rate, and a figure counts only when it appears on a pricing, fee or terms page rather than in a marketing line. A provider that serves one country only is scored on access for that country, and the limitation is printed in its profile.
What each provider publishes, criterion by criterion, with the date read and the source.

The index is paid for by nobody.
No provider pays to be assessed, listed or ranked, and there are no sponsored places. Providers do not apply: BCC selects the providers a business is likely to consider and scores them from their own pages. Any provider may ask to be assessed; the request changes nothing about the score.
Every figure is read from the provider's own pricing, product, legal or help page on the date shown. Providers may send corrections to [email protected]; a correction changes the page only where the provider's own page supports it. Every provider is re-read monthly and a new edition is published each October.
Consumer trading apps sold only to individuals, robo-advice software that does not hold or trade assets, market data vendors, portfolio analytics tools and fund managers are left out. Providers whose own pages could not be read on the date shown, including Atomic Invest, Bambu and Velexa, were not scored. Large custodian banks are not assessed in this edition.
Ranked providers may show the index badge on their own site.
The badge is free. The one condition is that it links to this page, so that a reader can check the score and the method behind it. It is withdrawn if the link is removed or the provider leaves the index.

Nobody. No provider pays to be assessed, listed or ranked.
It lets a firm that is not a broker offer investing inside its own app or service. The provider opens the investment accounts, places the trades, settles them and holds the assets, usually under its own licence, while the firm owns the customer experience.
Execution is placing the trade on a market. Custody is holding the shares or funds afterwards, in the customer's name and apart from the provider's own assets. A firm should know who does each, because custody decides what happens to customer assets if a provider fails.
SIPC in the US and the FSCS in the UK can compensate customers up to a set limit if a broker or custodian fails and assets are missing. They do not cover investment losses from falling prices.
It depends on the country and the model. Some providers let a firm launch under the provider's licence, for example as an appointed representative in the UK; others require the firm to hold its own. The firm stays responsible for what it promotes to its customers.
No. The index compares published facts and is not a recommendation to use a particular provider.
