How the index is scored.

6 criteria, scored only from what each provider publishes.

Lifecycle coverage

Whether one platform publishes all four stages of a loan: origination (taking and checking applications), decisioning (the rules or scoring that approve or decline), servicing (schedules, payments and changes after the loan is made) and collections (recovering late payments).

Published pricing

Monthly or per-loan prices on a pricing page. "From" and "starting at" prices do not count.

Loan types

The number of loan types the provider names as supported, such as personal instalment loans, business loans, mortgages, buy now pay later and credit lines or cards.

Integration and launch

A documented API (a published way for the lender's own systems to connect), set-up without writing code, a free trial or self-serve sign-up, and a stated time to launch.

Security standing

SOC 2 Type II (an independent auditor's report on how well security controls worked over a period) and ISO 27001 (the international certificate for managing information security).

Hosting and data

Where the platform runs, and whether the lender can choose the region, use its own cloud account or run it on its own servers.

Score out of 100 is the sum of each criterion score divided by five and multiplied by its weight. The overall ranking is the mean of the segment scores. Ties are broken by lifecycle coverage, then security standing. A provider that does not publish a price is scored as though the price were high, because a business cannot plan on an unpublished price. Prices are scored on the standard published rate, never an introductory, promotional or "from" rate, and a figure counts only when it appears on a pricing, fee or terms page rather than in a marketing line. A provider that serves one country only is scored on access for that country, and the limitation is printed in its profile.

Ranked in the Buckingham Capital Consulting Lending Platforms Index 2026

Questions.

Who pays for the The Buckingham Capital Consulting Lending Platforms Index?

Nobody. No provider pays to be assessed, listed or ranked.

What is the difference between origination and servicing software?

Origination software takes the application, checks the borrower and records the decision. Servicing software runs the loan after it is made: the repayment schedule, interest, fees, changes to terms and payments received. Some providers in this index do both; some do only servicing and connect to another provider for applications.

Why do "from" prices not count?

A "from" or "starting at" price is the lowest price for the smallest plan and does not tell a lender what it will pay. Only a published monthly or per-loan price for a named plan counts.

Does the software make my lending compliant?

No. The lender stays responsible for its own lending rules, affordability checks, disclosures and collections conduct under its regulator. Software can record and automate these steps; the lender's policies and people decide them.

How often is the index updated?

Every provider is re-read monthly and a new edition is published every October.

Is this advice?

No. The index compares published facts and is not a recommendation to use a particular provider.
